Denny Greenwell's Panther sits shattered after a crash at Samuels
Field on April 22, 1973. As shown here, the inboard flap hinges
broke, and the flape raised up as shown here. The loose flap acted
like a rudder, and it steered the Panther up over Denny's head and
straight into the ground. Because the plane veered into the center of
the circle, the control lines went slack, and Denny had no control of
the plane. It was one of the most violent model plane impacts I've
ever seen. |
