2-Meter & 10-Meter Nets
SEVERE WEATHER NET.
Something
new for 2004? Well not really -- the Severe Weather Net is the
renewal of the efforts by Dick Stone, KB4YYI, who served as second-in-command
in the Nelson County Emergency Management Agency. During periods
of threatening weather, Dick conducted a 2-meter net, taking reports
and relaying them to the NCEMA public service network and the
National Weather Service.
KARS
and NCEMA have worked together whenever severe weather approaches
the community. Reports from stations in western parts of Nelson
County are always appreciated.
The
Severe Weather Net takes place on the 145.47 repeater.
2-METER
NET. The
Bardstown 145.47 repeater is the home to the weekly KARS 2-Meter
Net every Sunday night at 9 pm local time. This informal net is
a sort of "meeting-on-the-air" for local hams, and serves
as a way to pass along information of interest to amateurs in
the community.
10-METER
NET. The KARS 10-Meter Net is a tradition that dates
back to the Novice Enhancement of 1987. Novice license holders
were given voice privileges on the 10-meter band, as well as 223
MHz and 1296 MHz. Prior to the establishment of a 2-meter repeater,
the 10-meter net was the only place for local hams to have an
on-the-air gathering.
The
net meets each Sunday night at 9:30 pm on 28.380 USB.
